UE: MIE Lecture Programme
Hello and welcome to the MIE Lecture programme with the English Language Teaching Centre! We are excited to welcome you to the University of Sheffield. In the video below our Lecture Coordinator, Andrew Burke, will tell you a little bit about the programme and what you can expect. Below the welcome video you can find some FAQs, a video on expected behaviour in online lessons, and a links to the page for each lecture.
We hope you enjoy the programme and look forward to seeing you soon!
Academic Director of Studies: University English
The lectures are on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Please look at the table below for the times of the classes. All times are given in GMT (UK Time). Remember, Japan is 9 hours ahead of the UK.
|Day||Lecture starts||Live class starts|
|Wednesday||10:30am||Straight after lecture|
The lectures on Monday and Tuesday are recorded. You can find and watch these on the lecture pages below. The lecture on Wednesday is live. You will access it using a link that you can find on the Wednesday lecture page below.
For each lecture there are Pre-Lecture Materials. These will introduce some of the vocabulary and ideas used in the lecture. It is very important that you complete these before you watch the lecture as they will help you to understand it better. You can find the materials below on the page for each lecture.
For the best experience, we recommend that you take part on a laptop or desktop. It is possible to use a tablet or mobile but please don’t do this unless you don’t have another option.
If you are having problems watching the lectures or accessing the materials, first try using a different browser (e.g. we find that Firefox or Chrome work best). This seems to solve a lot of problems.
For advice on accessing the live classes please look at this troubleshooting advice.
If this doesn’t work, please email email@example.com, put MIE Lecture programme as the subject of your email and let us know what the problem is.
You will find a link to the live class on the page for each lecture. Please use these links to join the classes at the correct time.
We are using Blackboard Collaborate for the online classes. You don’t need to download anything to use this. We recommend checking you can access the classroom before the class starts. If you have any problems accessing the room, this guide might help.
Make sure you have watched/attended the lecture and completed the notetaking template provided.
You will be able to access the website until Sunday 7th of March so you will be able to watch the lecture again after your live class if you want to.
Please watch this short video about what is expected of students in online lessons at the University of Sheffield.
